Many business owners have this idea of perfectionism. They’re too scared to move forward because they don’t want to fail.

But sales is an experiment and a testing of your faith. And once you’re able to acknowledge that – it’s actually freeing.

Here are 7 things you need to really understand about sales.

  1. You don’t have it all figured out.

If you think you're going to create sales and connections, and things will be perfect the first time your product or service comes out, it’s not going to happen. There's a possibility that you won’t sell your product or get it marketed. And that’s okay.

  1. Set boundaries.

There's a lot of investment that goes into experimenting and it's important to do so. But you've got to set boundaries. Don't keep going with an experiment if it's not really working. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself how much you’re willing to invest your money, time, or energy until you’re going to make the call to keep going or to stop.

  1. Don't create an offer just to create sales.

Not all sales are created equal. Your sales offer and your product are really important because who you attract are the people you're going to spend a lot of time with.

  1. Stay invested after the sale is done.

Once the sale is done, stay invested and make sure your customer stays happy. You can't systematize your product or service until you get the first level made. Get many people through the process, get their feedback, and then reiterate or innovate from there.

  1. Build a culture of ownership within your team.

Figure out the tools you need to put in place so that everyone on your team will feel confident and comfortable with selling your product or service regardless of their role in the company.

  1. Educate yourself as much as you can.

Make small experiments so you’ll have more confidence in the process.

  1. Pay attention to your mood and mindset.

Know why you're doing what you're doing because you can withstand failures if you have that higher purpose. Recognize that there are seasons of rain and there are seasons of drought – either way, everything is happening for a reason.
